Federal inspectors have ordered the long bridge on Waterford-Bethlehem Road closed. It was closed Monday by Marshall County employees.
County engineer Larry Britt said Monday that federal authorities authorized State Aid to inspect bridges with timber pilings or with timber members.
State Aid notified Britt Thursday, March 8, that the bridge be closed.
District 5 supervisor Ronnie Joe Bennett said the bridge was built in 1963 or 1964 after the river was channeled out. The channel was deep but is now only about six feet below the bridge, he said.
