Board of supervisors discusses fairgrounds issue

The Marshall County Board of Supervisors is mulling whether to attempt to take over the Marshall County Fairgrounds.

The county owns the property but it is run by the Fairgrounds Association board of directors, which has a 99-year lease on the property.

The discussion came up after supervisor Keith Taylor expressed concern that alcohol is possibly being consumed on the property. He was addressing a rumor that alcohol was being let in at the fairgrounds in coolers.

“I’m ready to do whatever we have to, to get the fairgrounds back,” he said at a recent board meeting. “I’m not for any kind of alcohol or drinking on county property. That’s the taxpayers’ fairgrounds.

“Most of the people running the fairgrounds are not Marshall County residents anyway.”
