Board approves grid rate
The Holly Springs Board of Aldermen, in a 3-2 vote, approved a local power company grid access charge for wholesale power.
Bill Duke, with TVA, said the charge will help align wholesale rates with the cost to serve TVA’s 154 local power companies that distribute power throughout TVA’s service territory.
The grid access charge moves some of the wholesale energy cost from the kWh to a fixed charge based on a fiveyear rolling average for the utility.
“There is a corresponding reduction in per kWh rate,” Stone said, “making the plan revenue-neutral to the utility and to the customer. It works much like the level billing option that HSUD offers its customers (based upon the customer’s 12-month average bill).”
