Benton County man charged in shooting

A Benton County man is charged with the shooting and murder following a dispute in a game of dice, according to sheriff Robby Goolsby.

He said the shooting incident took place behind the victim’s house in a shop on Hoover Road near the Hudsonville Road area.

John Matthews, 40, of Hoover Road was pronounced dead on the scene after the 3:30 a.m. shooting Sunday, May 29, he said.

Matthews sustained one gunshot to the head and was pronounced dead on the scene by coroner Larry Hopson, Goolsby said. There were about seven people on the scene at the time of the shooting, the sheriff said.

Kendarius Reaves, 22, also of the Hoover Road area, was charged with one count of murder, according to Goolsby.

Justice court judge Brody Childers, set bond at $100,000, he said.

The investigation is ongoing, Goolsby said.
