Attempted murder investigation

• Another suspect charged

A third attempted murder suspect was arrested at the Marshall County jail when bringing in contraband while visiting a friend, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

Rickey Rashad Butler, 23, of the 300 block of Deer Creek Road, is the third suspect arrested and charged in the shooting of a victim at a residence in the 1200 block of Barringer Road, he said.

Butler was arrested February 19 at the jail and is being held on one count of attempted murder and one count of introducing an electronic device into a correctional facility, he said.

Jayland Bagley, 17, and Artavious Wilson, 16, were also charged with attempted murder in connection with this incident and are in jail under a $1.2 million bond. Butler’s bond has been set at $100,000. Dickerson said Butler was visiting an inmate at the jail and brought a cell phone in with him. While holding Butler for the cell phone, investigators went to the parking lot and found the car they had been searching for since January 20 in connection with the shooting at Barringer Road. Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department noted a bullet mark on the vehicle. They then returned to the Barringer Road residence and found a matching piece of plastic that broke off at that location. It matched the plastic on the vehicle’s front right door, Dickerson said. The shooting victim at the residence on Barringer Road sustained a wound to the upper left area of the chest from a small caliber handgun. He remained in the Regional One Medical Center for about a month and now has been released and is recovering, the sheriff said.
