Atlatl demonstration October 28

Friends of Ingomar Mound, located about three miles out of New Albany, is hosting a celebration October 28.

They will demonstrate how ancient weapons, such as the atlatl, were used in hunting thousands of years ago by the American Indians in Mississippi and over the world.

Atlatls preceded the bow and arrow in most parts of the world and are one of mankind’s oldest mechanical weapons.

The atlatl is derived from the Aztec, who were using them when encountered by the Spanish conquistadors in the 1500s. The atlatl is a weapon that was used about 10,000 years before the invention of the bow and arrow some 1,500 years ago. The weapon was used for hunting.
