10 most wanted suspect takes life

One of Mississippi’s 10 most wanted criminal suspects was found holed up in a residence on Highway 4 West near Chulahoma Monday morning, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.

George Dewitt Robinson Jr., 39, of Lambert, wanted on charges of child molestation and other charges in Quitman County, was thought to be in hiding Monday morning around 9 a.m. When agents with the Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force and the United States Marshals Service, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, ATF (Alcohol Tobacco Firearms) agents and the DeSoto County SWAT team tried to get the suspect to surrender.

He has been sought since June of 2020, Dickerson said.

Agents surrounded the residence on Highway 4 West and called for the suspect to come out.

“Law enforcement made numerous attempts to negotiate with the suspect into surrendering, but the attempts were to no avail,” Dickerson said.

When DeSoto County SWAT team members attempted to enter the residence, they were met with gunfire. Dickerson said no agents were struck.

“Upon entry to the residence the suspect was found lying on the bathroom floor where there appeared to be a selfinflicted gunshot wound to the head,” the sheriff said. “A weapon that was believed to have been fired at officers was found in close proximity to the body.”

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Bureau is making a routine investigation into the incident, the sheriff said.

A person of interest was detained at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. She will possibly face charges of hindering the arrest of the suspect, Dickerson said. Charges, if any, were expected to be forthcoming at day’s end Monday, he said.

Dickerson said Robinson was the only person at the residence when agents arrived but the person of interest may have been observed leaving the residence Monday morning before law enforcement arrived.
