‘God’s plan’ takes Bagwell to Haiti

Pain is what drives Midge Bagwell of Holly Springs to continue yearly mission trips to the rural areas of Haiti.

All it took was just one look while she held a small baby named Abigail dying of AIDS and malnutrition to convince Bagwell she would make a trip every year to Haiti, if possible, to help relieve the suffering there.

“It (the sick child) was an image I could not shake,” she said, when she returned from her first trip in 2012 after comforting that small child at the Grace Children’s Hospital in Port Au Prince. “I knew then  I would go back if it was in God’s plan. Evidently it was, as I haven’t missed a trip yet.” Bagwell said those who work to address extreme poverty come to understand that it will take time to change the conditions in these rural areas.
