Curry awarded honorary doctoral degree

Alvin Curry, the cofounder and chairman of Atlanta-based financial services company myEcon, Inc., has been awarded an honorary doctoral degree in recognition of a 50year career dedicated to economic literacy and community leadership.

The degree was conferred by Dr. Rettie A. Winfield, chancellor, and Dr. Antoinette Cannaday, dean of the New York Christian Bible College.

Curry, a 1974 graduate of Potts Camp High School, has spent five decades working across the military, corporate America, labor unions, insurance, and network marketing sectors. As a corporate strategist and trainer, he has built marketing teams exceeding 400,000 representatives and previously spent seven years as the operations officer and CEO of a public corporation that generated more than $100 million in sales.

“My mission is to provide training and understanding to those that lack financial education or have fallen victim to societal roadblocks or obstacles to success,” Curry said.

In 2005, Curry co-founded myEcon, Inc., a debt-free company designed to teach families how to increase cash flow, eliminate debt, and build investment income for retirement.

The sixth child of the late Elcue and Elmira Curry, he attributes his professional longevity to his faith and his family. Curry and his wife, Carliss, also a 1974 Potts Camp graduate, have been married for 47 years. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.

Curry continues to travel and train entrepreneurs, focusing on generational wealth and financial literacy.
