Murder case closed with guilty plea By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Anthony Earl
Green pleaded guilty in Marshall County Circuit Court Friday to simple
murder in the death of Tolbert Sholar and Reamus Williams. He
also pleaded guilty to grand larceny in another case involving theft of
an air compressor, tool boxes and personal property on February 27,
2007. Judge Andrew Howorth sentenced Green to
life imprisonment for murder and to 10 years imprisonment, with five
years suspended, for grand larceny. He was also sentenced to five years
post-release supervision. The entering of the
guilty plea brought the case to a close for the murder of the two
Marshall County residents at the home of Reamus Williams on April 14,
2007. Co-defendant Angie Jones pleaded guilty to
simple murder, which was reduced from capital murder, before Judge
Robert Elliott on November 13, 2007, and was sentenced to life. Green was 25 years old at the time of the incident and Jones was 24. Both
Green and Jones will be eligible for parole on the murder convictions
at about age 65, with 40 years served. But Green will serve five years
on grand larceny charges before he will be eligible for release. Charges
against Green were also reduced from capital murder to simple murder.
He has been incarcerated without bond since being taken into custody
April 15, 2007. He and and co-defendant Angie Jones were arrested in
Memphis the day after the incident. Sholar died
of multiple stab wounds on the day of the incident and Williams, who
sustained stab wounds and burns, died in the Memphis Med May 29. Sheriff’s
department investigators recovered wallet contents of one of the
victims, the murder weapon and blood of the victim(s) during an
intensive investigation immediately following the discovery of the
crimes, according to assistant district attorney Lani Hill. She
read a statement of the underlying facts in court Friday. Hill said
Green was responsible for the stabbing of the two victims. Earlier at court, Jones confessed to pouring gas on Williams and to removing Sholar’s wallet. The incident thus included two murders, robbery and arson. After wishing Green “good luck,” Howorth spoke briefly to the families of the victims. “I
want to thank you, today,” he said. “This will not provide you with
closure because you have a loss than cannot be healed. I wish you
Godspeed and God’s grace.”
