OpinionFielder’s Choice ‘Day in Life’ Staying awake 24 hours straight once a year for photographs across Marshall County is fun and very tiring. Hopefully, you will like the results again in 2008. Close to Nowhere February is over! Finally! I’ve decided that I have to agree with Fred DeBardeleben, an advertising rep here at the newspaper. Mr. Fred, or Fred Dee, depending on what you want to call him, has been saying the entire month of February that February is a lousy month. The Preacher’s Corner Daddy’s desk never “crashed” in his cluttered office My father, like many another small-town Southern businessman, kept a cluttered desk. Daddy’s desk in the office off the showroom of his store was a wonder to behold. As a boy, I loved going in there, sitting in his chair, and trying my hand at the big, old-fashioned hand crank adding machine, or the little portable typewriter, where he could bang out letters at lightning speed, relying on his remarkable mastery of “hunt and peck.” Letter To The Editor Will anyone help?: I grew up on Salem Avenue, where there was a faint smell of natural gas in the air at times (my family and I have recently moved back into that house). The smell then was nothing that seemed too dramatic, but when you are a child, something like a natural gas leak would not register in the “I think it can kill me” part of your brain. Now that I am older and raising children in this house myself, the natural gas leak is something to cause much drama. Report from the MS Senate We had another busy week in the Mississippi Senate this week, passing several bills dealing with illegal immigrants in our state.
