I covered six basketball games in five nights last week.
Marshall County has been well-represented in the post-season arena.
Monday and Tuesday nights, I was in Potts Camp for the opening round of North Half competition – girls and then boys.

Planning a road trip — to Paducah!
• Daughter Dana has taken up quilting with a vengeance! She and her knitting/quilting friend Tammye made a road trip to Jackson this weekend for a rock hound meeting — Tammye’s son Andrew loves the rocks — and they took quilting supplies with them. Not only that, they hit a quilt store in Vicksburg that was “awesome” and came home with more goodies. They even brought me Lorax fabric.
Promising medical breakthroughs bring us closer to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy
Twelve years ago, I became involved in the fight against muscular dystrophy and authored legislation to bring more attention to this terrible disease.

A few days ago a young female called the police department asking to speak to the chief, so I took the call. She said that she lived in the county, and gun shots are often heard in her community. She asked about the city ordinance which prohibits the discharge of weapons inside city limits. I told her, when shots are fired we make arrests. At that point we began a serious conversation about gun violence.
