Special edition March 6 will include photos, features
The South Reporter will publish
its annual profile
edition on March 6. “A Slice of Life in Marshall County” will include
24 hours in photos, plus feature stories.

African-American Fest this week in Holly Springs The
African-American Fest in observance of Black History Month will be held
at the Eddie L. Smith Multi-Purpose Building, 160-B South Memphis
Street, on February 22 and 23.
The event is sponsored by Friends
of Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum and Cultural Center of African-American
History.
Opening
ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday. There will be singing and a
presentation of flags, tour of art exhibits and interactive cultural
exhibits. Guest speaker will be Dr. A.J. Stovall, a professor of Social
Science and chair of public relations at Rust College.
At 11 a.m. Rev. Cornelia Booker
will present a Kwanza workshop and at 12 noon is lunch.
In
the afternoon there will be a quilt show and traditional
African-American singing by Dr. Nellie Smith. Local choirs will present
spiritual music.
Saturday, February 23, will
begin with a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Biographies of five prominent
African-Americans will be presented. A lunch consisting of authentic
foods can be sampled.
This is an all-day
exhibit each day with arts and crafts, jewelry and other vendors. If

Also the museum offers
educational
field trips during Black History Month which include lectures, guided
tours and hands-on activities.
Democratic caucus set for Saturday at county precincts The Marshall County Democratic
Party caucus is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at all 24
voting precincts.
A
person must be a registered voter in Marshall County in order to
participate in the caucuses which are open to the general public.
The
purpose of the caucus is to select delegates to the Marshall County
Democratic Party Convention, according to circuit clerk Lucy Carpenter.
In turn, 30 delegates will be
elected to
membership in the Democratic Party Executive Committee in Marshall
County. The 30 members of the executive committee will select a party
chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer who handle the primary
elections for a four-year term of office, Carpenter said.
The executive committee is in
charge of certifying the primary election results.
