candidates, since last week’s newspaper, have qualified to seek
municipal positions in this year’s elections and one withdrew. In
Holly Springs, both Jannie Lane Luellen and Jivaro (Bo) Jones qualified
to seek the Ward 3 alderman job. Incumbent Garrie Colhoun withdrew from
the Ward 3 race last week. In Byhalia, incumbent alderman Richard Minor has qualified. In Potts Camp, incumbent alderman Dollean Porter has qualified. The deadline for qualifying is Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m. Each candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the city or ward for which he or she is seeking office. The
primary elections (if needed) are Tuesday, May 7, with a runoff date of
Tuesday, May 21. Municipal general elections are set for Tuesday, June
4. The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday,

23rd Annual Holly Springs/Marshall County UNCF Banquet will be held
Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in Shaw Cafeteria on the campus of Rust
College. Delivering the keynote address will be Dr. Kenneth T. Whalum,
Jr., pastor of The New Olivet Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn. The
Holly Springs-Marshall County UNCF committee is working hard to meet
its $40,000 goal. Tickets for the banquet are $15. For more

662-252-8000, ext. 4911. County library offering computer classes The Marshall County Library will be offering two different computer classes in March. One
class will be Computer Basics, where you will learn how to use a mouse,
basic computer terminology, and how to open a program and navigate
through that program. The other class will be
Internet Basics, where you will learn Internet terminology, how to
navigate to a website, and how to evaluate information you find on the
Internet. Each is a one-time, two-hour class. Class dates are on March 5, 12, and 19. Classes are free. Seating is limited, so register today. Call 662-252-3823.
