Supervisors mull taxation questions By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Marshall
County supervisors, who have complained developers are trying to get
out from under their tax status as platted subdivisions when lots do

Store clerks face charges By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
new Marshall County Metro Narcotics Task Force made its first arrests
inside the city limits of Holly Springs Friday, Feb. 15, according to
police chief William Hollowell. He said four
store clerks were arrested at two separate businesses and charged with
possession and sale of controlled substances. Full Story
Turnage touts school district’s success By SUE WATSON Staff Writer In
a concerted effort to get the word out on Holly Springs School
District’s success and also call for a new intermediate school
facility, Irene Walton Turnage recently addressed the Marshall County
Board of Supervisors. Supervisors expressed
gladness the district is rated Successful overall, that the
intermediate school was rated Successful, and that the junior high and
high schools were both rated High Performing based on performance

Job Fair Tuesday By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair opens at 9 a.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 26, in
the McMillan Gym on the Rust College campus and continues until 2 p.m. Employers
who have job opportunities or expect to have job openings in the next
six months are encouraged to sign up online anytime between now and the

City opens bids on Hill Crest restoration By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Four
contractors bid on the restoration work at historic Hill Crest
Cemetery. The bids ranged from a low bid of $316,242 to a high of
$530,442. The scope of the work, detailed in the
specifications set down by the Mississippi Department of Archives and
History, included the cleaning, resetting and repair of monuments,
removing damaged/unhealthy vegetation, street (pathway) improvements
and overlay of 3,100 feet, and installing/repairing the fence around

City police respond to 100 calls Holly Springs police officers responded to 100 calls last week, according to chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 5; alarms, 12; larcenies, 3; accidents,
6; funeral escorts, 6; burglaries, 5; domestics, 8; assists to
agencies, 3; checks on homebound, 1; 911 hang-ups, 5; shots fired, 2;
auto burglary, 1; auto theft, 1; and 42 miscellaneous calls. The dog

Board discusses legislation By SUE WATSON Staff Writer State
legislative action on a heavily-lobbied bill, that would give big tax
breaks to owners of Section 42 housing projects, was slowed last week
by the Mississippi Association of Supervisors. MAS
representatives went into the House Chambers to oppose big tax breaks

Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Mardi Gras Party, to benefit Byhalia
Beautiful and downtown projects, is Friday, Feb. 22, from 6:30 p.m. to
