Obituaries Mary Lee Glover Belfor
Mary
Lee Glover Belfor, 97, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 5, 2013, at her
home. She was a member of the church stewardess board and a retired
domestic worker. Services were held at 2:30 p.m.
on Feb. 10 at Gray’s Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was
a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Brian Davis Sr.
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves two children, John E.
Belfor Jr., Landry Harris Hearn, both of Holly Springs; six
grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Clara Harris and James O. Belfor; and a brother, M.L. Evans. Nicole Y. Bennett Browden
Nicole
Y. Bennett Browden, 30, died Jan. 28, 2013. She was the widow of
Michael Browden. She attended Holly Springs School and later Northwest
Community College in Ashland. She was a member of Strawberry MB Church,
where she was a member of the young adult choir. She later joined the
Army and moved to Maysville, Mo. Services were
held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 2. Rev. Michael Johnson and Rev. Willie Jeffries
officiated. Burial was in Strawberry MB Church Cemetery. M.J. Edwards
and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She
leaves her children, Jemmell Bennett, Felbert, Mercede, Mary and
Jaiquavion McKinney; her mother, Anne Marie Bennett; two sisters, Freda
Bennett of Memphis, Tenn., Angela Vaughn; and a brother, Jay M. Bennett
of Holly Springs. She was preceded in death by her father and grandfather. Pallbearers
were Kelsey Freeman, Jamarris Lane, James Bowen Jr., James Bowen Sr.,
Elijah Thigpen, William Talley and Peter Thigpen. Sallie Martin Burgess
Sallie
Martin Burgess, 97, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died
Jan. 29, 2013, at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora. She was the widow of
Chester Burgess and a former member of the church choir. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9 at Yarbrough Chapel CME Church, where
she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves two daughters, Sallie
Mae Holloway (Oscar) of Holly Springs, Darlene Shipp (Russell) of
Aurora; four sons, Chester Burgess Jr. (Chris), Clyde Burgess, Lawrence
Mosby (Evon), all of Aurora, John Burgess (Patricia) of Memphis, Tenn.;
60 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 14
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her children, Willie G. Burgess, Ruth Smith, Henry L. Burgess
and Baby Girl Burgess; her grandchildren, James, Stacy and Robert; her
great-grandchildren, Marcus Shipp Jr. and Michael Taylor Jr.; and her
siblings, Gertrue, Harry, Willie, Booker T., Felix, Henry and Neal
Martin. Sara Rebecca Clifton Sara Rebecca “Becky” Clifton, 92, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 7, 2013. She was the widow of Marshall Clifton. Services
were held at 3 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Potts Camp Baptist Church, where she
was a member. Bro. Ken Cooper and Bro. Chuck Fowler officiated. Burial
was in Temperance Hill Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements. She leaves three sons,
Henry M. Clifton (Joyce), Charles W. Clifton (Glenda), Ray Clifton
(Bonnie), all of Potts Camp; his daughter, Estelle Clifton McClure
(Billy) of Red Banks; his sister, Irene Howell of Hickory Flat; eight
grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Barry
Clifton, Justin Akin, Kevin McClure, Cole Clifton, Dustin Akin, Brandon

Essie Lanier Bowens Holloway, 46, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 7, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was disabled. Services
will be held at 12 noon on Feb. 15 at Rising Star MB Church. Burial
will be in Finley Grove MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Robert McClain will

Kendra Bowens of Holly Springs; her mother, Delories Bowens Taylor of

Mae Jones, 76, of Olive Branch, died Feb. 6, 2013, at Baptist Hospital
in Collierville, Tenn. She was president of the usher board for more
than 42 years and a retired inspector for Malone & Hyde in Memphis,
Tenn. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at
Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Cayce, where she was a member. Burial was
in the church cemetery. Elder Robert Bowers officiated. J.F. Brittenum
and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She
leaves her daughter, Jo Ann Watson of Olive Branch; two brothers, Cecil
Jones of Memphis, Tenn., James Williams Jones of Ashland; two
grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Thomas Austin Murray Thomas
Austin Murray, 70, of Kosciusko, formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan.
31, 2013, at Montfort Jones Hospital in Kosciusko. He was a member of
Hopewell No. 1 MB Church in Holly Springs, a veteran in the U.S. Army
and a retired factory worker with Ford Tractor Division. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial was in Bowens Cemetery. Rev. Andre’ DeBerry officiated. He
leaves his daughter, Angelique Hill of Detroit, Mich., his sister,
Eleanor Leake of Miami, Fla.; his brother, Arthur (Georgia Ella) Murry
of Chicago, Ill.; his sister-in-law, Amie Murry of Holly Springs; and
his nephew, Sabastian Murry of Ft. Washington, Md. James W. Parker James W. Parker, 72, of Southaven, died Feb. 10, 2013, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. He was a roofer. Services will be held at a later date. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. He

Henry Spencer, 75, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 3, 2013, at Alliance
HealthCare System. He was the widower of Frankie Mae Spencer. He was a
farmer. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 9
at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland, where he was a member. Burial

leaves his daughter, Brenda Brown of Ashland; six sons, Lonnie Spencer,
Henry Spencer, L. James Hampton, Johnny Hampton, Willie E. Hampton,

great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Louise Spencer. Georgia Elaine Stanton Georgia
Elaine Stanton, 77, of Hickory Flat, died Feb. 7, 2013, at Sanctuary
Hospice House in Tupelo. She was a Baptist and a laborer at Wurlitzer. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Brownie Tohill
officiated. She leaves two sons, Bobby Stanton of
Hickory Flat, David Stanton (Diane) of Potts Camp; four daughters,
Robbie Hall (Tom) of New Albany, Brenda Brown (Charles) of Hickory
Flat, Gail Moorman (Scott) of Myrtle, Holly Russell (Shay) of Fulton;
two brothers, Jimmy Brisco of Myrtle, Ronnie Brisco of Hickory Flat;
four sisters, Mary Mills, Laxine Lemons, Betty Schneider, all of Potts
Camp, Charlotte Brisco of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and seven
