There
was a lot of commotion Friday around 2 p.m. on Highway 7 South, down
from the Sports Corral.
A
controlled burn of grass and brush behind a mobile home in Lillie Cove
was picked up by high winds, which transferred the fire to the little
white house on the hill, according to Rodney Crane, assistant fire
chief of the Holly Springs Fire Department. From there the fire spread
to the hillside near the Sports Corral, he said.

Jimmie
Collins has many fond memories from his 28 years in public office but
the best come from the Potts Camp Town Park.
“My
special interest has always been the park,” Collins said.
“I’ve seen a lot of kids grow up there.”
He
has served three terms or 12 years as mayor, and he will not seek
reelection this year. Prior to that, he was an alderman for 16 years.
He
related a story told to him by a parent about a child who came to the
park and told his mother he wanted a hamburger. But the child changed
his mind when he did not see Collins at the concession stand.
