Movre elected 2008 treasurer of area Alliance Hugh Stump, executive director of the Oxford Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), has been elected president of the Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance (Alliance) for 2008. The Alliance is a 30-county partnership in north Mississippi dedicated to building cultural and heritage tourism within the region. Also elected to serve as officers for 2008 are Linda Butler Johnson, executive director of the Tupelo CVB, vice president; Kim Terrell, executive director of the DeSoto County Tourism Association, secretary; and Stephanie Movre, executive director of the Holly Springs Tourism & Recreation Bureau, treasurer. Additional members of the board of directors include: Duane Bullard, Tippah County Development Foundation; Martha Jo Coleman, Pontotoc County Historical Society; Theresa Cutshall, Tishomingo County Tourism Council; Mary-Kathryn Millner, tourism manager, Oxford CVB; Richard Ramsey, Howlin’ Wolf Blues Society, representing the West Point/Clay County Community Growth Alliance; George Rowland, North Central Mississippi Resource Conservation & Development Council; Arma Salazar, Starkville CVB/Greater Starkville Development Partnership; Jill Smith, Union County Heritage Museum; Deborah Stubblefield/ Judy Smith, Aberdeen Visitors Bureau; Kristy White, Corinth CVB; James Tsismanakis, Columbus CVB; and Brian Wilson, Noxubee County Economic Development Office. Sarah McCullough with the Mississippi Development Authority-Tourism Division is an ex-officio member of the board. “The Alliance is fortunate to have such strong leadership in place as it moves forward into the new year,” said Kent Bain, project coordinator for the Alliance. “Having our organization under the guidance of the region’s professional tourism directors will allow us to make substantial strides in building cultural heritage tourism in the region.” The next board meeting will be on March 25 at the Oxford Convention Center following the March 24-25 Heritage Tourism Workshop (visit www.oxfordcvb.com for additional details). The mission of the Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance is to preserve, enhance, interpret, and promote the cultural and heritage assets of the hills region.
