Recipes from Martha Ruth Leonard
Coconut Bread Pudding
2 cups milk
3-4 slices of bread, cubed
all ingredients in order given. Bake at 375° in a greased 1-1/2 qt.
casserole dish until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Serves
2 cups flour
1/2 cup raisins
Cream butter, sugar and cinnamon. Add egg, then applesauce. Blend in flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Add raisins and nuts. Bake in an 8x8 pan at 350° for one hour.
1/2 box confectioner’s sugar

A ceremony was held Sunday afternoon at the Marshall County courtsquare monument. The service, coordinated by VFW Post #5697, was held Dec. 7, on the 62nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and in remembrance of the more than 2,300 Americans who lost their lives on what then-President Franklin Roosevelt called “a date that will live in infamy.”
Congress considers bill that will make 78 an interstate
A bill that would designate Highway 78 as part of the federal interstate system is headed for Congressional approval. The bill will make 78 as part of I-22, running from Memphis, Tenn., to Birmingham, Ala.

Local athletes compete in triathlon; look to Hawaii in ’89
John Booth Farese, Jeffrey H. Farese and Marvin Bales competed in the 1988 Coca-Cola National Sprint Triathlon Championship in Boca Raton, Fla., Dec. 4. The three local athletes have their sights set on an iron man triathlon. The granddaddy of all iron man triathalons is held in Hawaii, where the three hope to qualify.
James Asa Holbrook celebrated his retirement from the Holly Springs Utility Department after 41 years, last Tuesday night. Holbrook said he has worked in every job except manager during his tenure.
50 Years Ago - December 12, 1963
Potts Camp takes both first place honors in tournament
The boys championship trophy went to Coach Mitchell Stone’s Potts Camp Cardinals after their 65-35 victory over Holly Springs. The Potts Camp girls won a 39-35 victory over Ashland.
Holiday bridge party
Mrs. Ben Evans and Mrs. Tom C. Stewart entertained with a delightful holiday bridge party Thursday at the country club. The Christmas motiff was carried out. The tea guests, Mrs. Tom H. Stewart, Mrs. Guy Smith and the Misses Mary Walker and Frances Gatewood, joined the 13 tables of bridge guests for a delicious dessert before the bridge game.
