Two suspects arrested in murder
By SUE WATSON
A Saturday night shooting at the corner of Randolph Street and Roberts Avenue in Holly Springs took the life of a Laws Hill man, according to police chief William Hollowell.
Two suspects were identified and are in custody charged with murder, he said.
The call to the scene was received at 911 dispatch at about 8:30 p.m., stating a shooting had occurred and the victim was lying in the backyard of a residence in the 200 block of Randolph Street, the chief said.
Police arrived at the scene minutes later and found Jamie Stewart, 36, of the 3500 block of Highway 4 West, lying on his back with gunshot wounds, he said.
Coroner James Richard Anderson pronounced Stewart dead at the scene. He said Stewart had gunshot wounds to the arm and to the chest area. The body was sent to Jackson for autopsy.
Witnesses who heard the shots fired identified two suspects and the suspects’ vehicle, Hollowell said. A BOLO (Be On Look Out) was sent out for both suspects and searches were made in the city by the Holly Springs Police Department and deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
One suspect was picked up by U.S. Marshals in Abbeville Monday morning. Monday night, the second suspect turned himself in at the jail, he said.
Kevin Martin, 30, of the 500 block of West Sanders Avenue in Holly Springs, and Joanna Gordon, 24, of the CR 121 area in Abbeville, have been charged with murder in connection with the incident, he said.
Hollowell said the shooting is believed to be due to a domestic dispute among the individuals involved.
