• Alderman not seeking reelection

Nancy
Hutchens has spent 24 years on the Holly Springs Board of Aldermen
simply doing her best. She has no regrets.
“I’m
sure some didn’t agree with me,” she said,
“but I have no guilty
conscience about anything. I did what I thought was right at the
time.”
Hutchens,
61, was the first female elected to the board when she won her first
four-year term in 1985. And she’s still the only female to
serve.

“good Samaritan” alerted a family of a house fire
in the early morning
January 17 and work by Holly Springs firemen limited damage to the roof
area.
“A
passerby saw a large amount of smoke
coming out of the attic,” said fire chief Kenny Holbrook.
“They (the
family) was still in there asleep and didn’t know about it.
Thanks goes
to a ‘good Samaritan’ who stopped and got them out
of the house.”

Accident victim
robbed; one charged with fraud

A
Marshall County man is jailed after being accused of using a credit
card taken from an automobile accident victim.
Dennis
Brittenum, 33, 3690 Highway 72, was arrested January 15 at the
intersection of Taska Road and Highway 72, according to Sheriff Kenny
Dickerson. He is charged with credit card fraud.

Death likely
accidental

Preliminary
autopsy results show a Holly Springs woman died of hypothermia,
according to police chief Robert Pearson and coroner James Richard
Anderson.
Officers
were called to a location
Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the 100 block of West College Street at 7:40
a.m. in regards to a person being trapped in a donation box, Pearson
said.

Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5; motor
vehicle accidents, 3; disturbances, 5; animal-related calls, 1;
assists, 6; medical assistance calls, 6; fires, 3; miscellaneous calls,
7; damaged property, 1. Byhalia police officers made five arrests during the past week.
Friends of Library meeting Feb. 3 The Friends of the Marshall County Library will hold its monthly meeting on February 3 at the Holly Springs Library. The
business meeting will start at 11:30 a.m., and the program at 12 noon.
The presenter of the program will be Marjorie Gerald of the Memphis
Independent Speakers Bureau. Gerald will speak on “The Heart of the
Nation: Our Capitol Building,” and show images of this most important
structure in our national identity, where the work of our unique
democracy actually gets done. Refreshments will be served, and the program is, as always, free of charge and open to the public.
