I’m not typically accustomed to getting in the Christmas spirit in the second week of November.
But Tuesday of last week, Nov. 12, definitely helped put me in the mood.
The Holly Springs Holiday Open House was great – an excellent example of the community pulling together in a very successful effort.

Freddie Lee takes the tour
Last Monday morning, when I pulled into my parking spot in the alley beside the newspaper building, I was very surprised to see a rooster at the end of the alley pecking away around JB’s garbage bin.
Yes, a rooster. A young, solid white, pretty rooster.
We all know I am a sucker for chickens, roosters, turkeys, etc. My friend Marion has a tom turkey that is spectacular and knows it. Especially when his hens are around, if you go near him, he spreads his tail feathers wide and quite literally struts around for all to admire!

Gratitude knows no boundaries of race or creed
I am already thinking about Thanksgiving. You see, the official Presbyterian denominational calendar listed Thanksgiving Day a week early! If a minister-colleague had not alerted me, I would have conducted our church’s Thanksgiving service on the wrong Sunday. My turkey dinner will have to wait.
