Absentee voting begins for state rep runoff
Andre’ DeBerry and John Faulkner will meet in a runoff election on Tuesday, Nov. 26, for District 5 state representative.
District 5 includes most of Marshall County (18 precincts) and a small portion of northwestern Benton County (three precincts).
DeBerry led the seven-candidate field on November 5 with 38 percent of the vote, while Faulkner had 23 percent.
Absentee voting is now available for the runoff. The Marshall County Circuit Clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will also be open the next two Saturdays (Nov. 16) and Nov. 23) from 8 a.m. until noon for absentee voting. Saturday, Nov. 23, at noon is the deadline for voting absentee.
Absentee voting is available for registered voters in the district who will be unable to go to the official polling station on the day of the election.
On Tuesday, Nov. 26, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Anyone with questions concerning the upcoming election can call the circuit clerk’s office at (662) 252-3434.
The seat in the state House came open this year when Kelvin Buck was elected mayor of Holly Springs.
County school board will meet Thursday
The Marshall County School Board will meet Thursday, Nov. 14, at 4:30 p.m. for its monthly board meeting. It will be held at 103 B North Market Street in Holly Springs.
Christmas parade Dec. 14 in Byhalia
The Town of Byhalia’s Christmas parade, “Byhalia Believes,” will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m.
If interested in participating in the parade, call Town Hall at 662-838-2135. No entry fee required. Entry deadline is December 9.
Holly Springs parade scheduled for Dec. 7
The annual Holly Jolly Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, in downtown Holly Springs.
The parade is sponsored by the Holly Springs Main Street Chamber. Line-up starts at 3 p.m. at the Old Colonial parking area on East Van Dorn Avenue. Judging begins at 4 p.m. The parade starts at 5 p.m.
All entries must be received by November 29. Pick up an entry form at the Holly Springs Main Street Chamber and Holly Springs Tourism offices at 148 East College Avenue.
