DeBerry, Faulkner go to runoff in District 5
Andre’ DeBerry and John Faulkner were the top vote-getters in Tuesday’s special election for District 5 state representative. The two will face each other in a runoff in three weeks, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
District 5 includes most of Marshall County and a small portion of northwestern Benton County.
Unofficial vote totals Tuesday night (from the two counties) showed DeBerry with 959 votes (38 percent) and Faulkner with 587 votes (23 percent).
Voter turnout Tuesday was slim, as expected, according to Marshall County Circuit Clerk Lucy Carpenter. In Marshall County alone, the turnout was 17 percent of eligible voters in the 18 precincts.
Unofficial vote totals of the other five candidates were Daylon Cannon, 324; Arthur “Clyde” Ellzey, 109; Lee Edward Gill, 127; Jacqueline Simon, 83; and Robert Earl Young, 321.
The seat in the state House came open when Kelvin Buck was elected mayor of Holly Springs.
Also Tuesday in Benton County, ‘Honey’ Bean-Thurston won the District 2 election commissioner race with 73 percent of the vote.
