Recipes from Martha Ruth Leonard
Paul Lynde Beef Stew
2 lbs. stewing beef cubes
1 tbsp. brown sugar
oven to 200°. Combine all ingredients except bread crumbs. Place in
deep, 3-quart casserole. Stir once before baking. Top with bread
crumbs. Bake, covered, 8-10 hours. Can be made the day before. Yield:
Baked Apple and Onion
4 apples, peeled and sliced
1 tsp. salt
oven to 300°. Butter casserole dish. Cover a layer of apple slices with
a layor of onions, separated into rings. Sprinkle a generous amount of
brown sugar and spare amount of salt on onions. Repeat layers until
dish is heaping. It will shrink; don’t be afraid to heap. Top with
crumbs and generous dabs of butter; cover and bake about 3 hours.
Uncover last half hour to brown and reduce juice. Yield: 4-6 servings.
Great with pork.
“Philly” Cream Sauce
oz. pkg. cream cheese, cubed
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Combine cream cheese and milk over low heat, stir until smooth. Blend in Parmesan cheese and onion salt. Serve over broccoli, asparagus, or a slice of ham on a toasted English muffin.

Kathy Clayton receives doctorate
Kathy Clayton received her doctorate in community college leadership at MSU. She graduated with a 4.0 average and was the first to graduate in the newly designated program for community college administrators. She has taught for many years, including Holly High, Marshall Academy, Potts Camp, Ashland and Tupelo.
Commemorative gardens dedicated
Tues., Oct. 14, a beautiful new commemorative garden was dedicated at Strawberry Plains to “Two sisters who loved nature.” The gardens honor Margaret Finley Shackelford and Ruth Finley who donated the preserve.

“Miss Teen” Lane Baker to compete in Hawaii
Miss Teen of Mississippi, Lane Baker, will go to Hawaii in November to compete for the title of Miss Teen America. She is enrolled as a freshman at the University of Mississippi. She is a 1989 graduate of Marshall Academy.
Pats undefeated - school’s best record on line Friday night
The opportunity to post the best record in Marshall Academy history goes on the line Friday night when the undefeated Patriots travel to Senatobia to play arch-rival Magnolia Heights. The Patriots are 9-0 in regular season play. MA has defeated Kirk, 38-0; Marvell, 14-0; North Delta 44-21; Lee, 10-7; Rossville, 39-0; SBEC, 20-6; North Sunflower, 19-12 and Fayette, 22-8.

Sivad to appear at Holly Theatre
“Sivad,” well known as the “monster of ceremonies” for the Saturday night Fantastic Features television show, will make a personal appearance at the Holly Theatre Thursday night, along with Frankenstein, also in person. Both may be seen on the stage and in the lobby, beginning at 6 p.m.
