Absentee voting begins for state representative
Absentee voting is underway in the Marshall County Circuit Clerk’s office for the District 5 state representative election.
It is available for registered voters in the district who will be unable to go to the official polling station on the day of the election.
The special election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5.
If no candidate receives a majority of the votes cast, then a runoff election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
District 5 includes most of Marshall County and a portion of northwestern Benton County.
Seven candidates are seeking the position, which became open when former representative Kelvin Buck was sworn in as mayor of Holly Springs on July 1.
Chamber luncheon Oct. 24 in Byhalia
The fourth quarter Membership Luncheon Meeting of the Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Networking and business displays begin at 11 a.m.
The location will be at the Northcentral EPA Community Building at 225 Highway 309 in Byhalia.
The meeting is sponsored by volunteers of “Hearts & Hands Ministries.” Dr. Amy Woods of the Byhalia Family Health Clinic and president of the Hearts & Hands board will be the keynote speaker.
Other highlights of the meeting will be the selection of the Member of the Day, new member picture and 30-second commercials.

Friends of MA to host Outrageous ’80s
Friends of Marshall Academy will host “Outrageous ’80s” on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Oak Palace in Holly Springs.
The fund-raiser will be held from 7:30 p.m. until midnight and feature entertainment by “Almost Famous” of Memphis, Tenn.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. There will be hors d’ oeuvres, raffle, silent auction and dancing.
