Making the Connection

Holly Springs Intermediate School held its first Federal Programs School Improvement Committee meeting on Wednesday, October 1, in Dorlean Gibson’s office. Gibson is the facilitator.
Stakeholders were welcomed by Gibson. She gave the mission and vision statement and told the group that the mission and vision were located on their agendas on the left, along with the Great Goals for the district.
Stakeholders were given the Parental Involvement Plan and the Schoolwide Plan to review. If there were any questions or suggestions, they may bring them to the next meeting or send by children.
The following were discussed under the Schoolwide Planning Dimensions: Student Achievement – Nine Weeks Testing, MAP, from MCT2 to MCT3, and parent compacts.
School Context and Organization - Bullying Program by Social Worker Vicki Washington and Fundraisers by fourth grade teacher Tywana Hunt.
Curriculum and Instruction - Why Common Core? Video http://vimeo.com51933492,h ow to read the Common Core Standards in Reading/Mathematics, and sample test items from www.Parrconline.org.
Beverly Phillips, parent liaison, gave an update on parent training sessions which will start this month. Also, the PTA at the Intermediate School will have its first PTA fund-raiser with Domino’s Pizza here in Holly Springs. Domino’s will be here with plenty of pizza for everyone for parents and children in grades four-six on Thursday, October 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Parents, we will need PTA office holders. Also, you are encouraged to join the PTA at the jr. high school and high school.
Stakeholders had questions and felt that they had gained good and helpful information. Lunch was served courtesy of the Parent Center, Beverly Phillips.
The final day for the candy sale at Holly Springs Intermediate School is Friday, October 10. The Intermediate School will hold its first dance on October 17, from 6 till 9 p.m. Admission is $3.
Holly Springs School District will be closed for fall break on October 13-14. Students will return on October 15.
Holly Springs Jr. High School will kick off its Homecoming activities on Wednesday, October 15. The Homecoming pageant will be held on October 16, in the auditorium at 6 p.m. Admission is $3.
