Deadline Saturday for voter registration
The deadline to register to vote in the November 4 General Election is Saturday, Oct. 4.
“Every Mississippian should be registered to vote,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann. “This is a privilege that comes at the cost of countless men and women who have given their lives for our country. You can honor their sacrifice by registering to vote today.”
Each circuit clerk’s office will be open from 8 a.m.-12 noon Saturday, Oct. 4, to accept voter registration forms.
Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked by October 4.
Voters are required by law to register at least 30 days prior to an election day. Voter registration applications submitted after October 4 will be processed by the circuit clerk, but the voter will not be eligible to cast a ballot in the November 4 election.
Eligible military and overseas voters are given an extended registration period in Mississippi. The deadline for our military and overseas voters to register to vote is October 25.
Registration forms are available at your local circuit clerk’s office. You may also download an application from the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ms.gov .
MA softball team finishes third in state
The Marshall Academy softball team finished third in the Class A State Softball Tournament at Shiloh Park in Brandon.
They dropped both of their games Monday – 4-0 to Carroll Academy and 5-2 to Heidelberg Academy – after winning two last Saturday. The Lady Patriots finish the season with a 25-10 record.
Errors and hitting woes were costly versus Carroll Monday morning in the winners’ bracket.
“Five errors hurt us, and we could not hit at all,” coach Carlton Gibson said.
Kat Moore and Hailey McMinn each had a single.
Darcie Gibson pitched all six innings and only gave up three hits and one earned run in the loss. She struck out two.
The Lady Pats, who dropped into the losers’ bracket, were then ousted from the double-elimination tournament later Monday by Heidelberg.
Gibson and Moore each went two for three, while Maura Jane Autry and Hannah Pasco each had one hit.
Gibson pitched all six innings and gave up eight hits.
Moore, Gibson and Autry were selected to the all-tournament team.
