Obituaries Elder Lawrence Echols
Elder
Lawrence Echols, 83, of Byhalia, died Jan. 18, 2013, at his home. He
was a member of Gospel Temple COGIC in Moscow, Tenn., where he was a
deacon and elder and sang in the choir. He was a former pastor at
Temple of Joy COGIC in Memphis, Tenn., and a member of Chosen
Generation singing group. He was a retired furnace tapper at Chromium
Mining and Smelting Co. Services were held at 11
a.m. on Jan. 26 at Gospel Temple COGIC. Burial was in Mt. Sinai COGIC
Church Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Bishop David Hall officiated. J.F.
Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves his wife, evangelist Lue City Watson Echols; five daughters,
Sarah Jo Smith of Austin, Tx., Ruby Jean Echols of Memphis, Joy Zella
Echols of Byhalia, Wanda Fay Faulkner, Brenda Kay Echols, both of
Oceanside, Calif.; a son Richard Jewell Echols of Richmond, Va.; a
brother, Billy Echols of Memphis; 23 grandchildren and 55
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
a son, Lawrence Echols Jr.; daughters Pamela Reshell Echols-Holt and
Glenda Kay Echols-Moore; and a grandchild. Maxine Hurt Maxine
Hurt, 75, of Ripley, died Jan. 20, 2013, at Tippah County Hospital
Nursing Home in Ripley. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a
bookkeeper. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan.
23 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bluff Springs Cemetery.
Dr. Jack Bennett and Bro. Rusty Miller officiated. She
leaves a daughter, Carol Anne Hurt (Craig Forsythe) of Ripley; a son,
David “Big Daddy” Hurt (Jade) of Ripley; a sister, Anielene Brissette
(Rick) of Ripley; a brother, Milton Bryant (Becky) of Holly Springs; a
grandchild and a stepgrandchild. Pallbearers were Jeff Bryant, Randy Presley, Kerry Cockrell, Ronnie Richardson, Tay Smith, Brandon Martindale and Laron Shannon. C. Janes, 45, of Byhalia, died Jan. 16, 2013, in the Watson Community.
She was a member of First Baptist of Potts Camp and a transportation
dispatcher. Graveside services were held at 11

Willie Jones, 70, of Holly Springs, formerly of Aurora, Ill., died Jan.
10, 2013, at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a former member of Mt.
Moriah MB Church and a retired laborer with Mims Brothers Pulpwood. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar. Burial

Hughey Jones, 89, of Byhalia, died Jan. 16, 2013, at Baptist Memphis
Hospital. He was an Army veteran, retired farmer and merchant. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Byhalia United Methodist Church,
where he was a member. Rev. Stephen Bittick and Rev. Don Wilson
officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves his wife, Josephine Jones; four children, Lyn Hughes (Byron),
Victor H. Jones Jr. (Carol), Bryan Jones (Elaine), and Becky Jones
(Ken); a sister, Mary Agnes Jones Chambers; three grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lorraine. Pallbearers
were Jason Jones, Craig Long, Byron Hughes, Ken Jones, Clayborn Hasty,
Bob Carrington, Chad Carrington and Kevin Hughes. Honorary pallbearers

Lee “Bug” McGhee Jr., 61, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 19, 2013. He was
a member of Yarbrough Chapel CME Church, a former member of Waterford
Masonic Lodge, a member of Holly Springs Cowboys Riding Association, a
member of the 8-Point Hunting Club and assembly line worker with TCI of
Ashland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on
Jan. 26 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Laws Hill community. Burial was be in

Michael McGhee of Memphis, Tenn., Eddie McGhee of Aurora, Ill. and two

Edgar Parrish, 83, of Byhalia, died Jan. 20, 2013, at Baptist
Collierville Hospital. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 23 at Church of the Living Gospel, where
he was a member. Burial was in Byhalia Cemetery. Bro. Jay Glosson

leaves his wife, Linda Parrish; a son, Michael J. Parrish of Byhalia; a

Louise Poff, 76, of Ashland, died Jan. 17, 2013, at Ashland Health and
Rehab. She was the widow of Dewey Poff. She was a clerk with Benton
County Circuit Court and she worked with the Benton County School
Superintendent Maureen Bain and for the Farese Law Office. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 20 at Bluff Springs Baptist Church, where
she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Dr. Gerald Hodges
and Bro. Farron Ash officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements. She leaves three sons,
Michael D. Poff of Brandon, Stanley D. Poff, Jeffrey H. Poff, both of
Ashland; a daughter, Cynthia A. Hunt of Ashland; seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
