Close to Nowhere
Chattanooga, here we come
Remy and I are running away from home. We’re leaving her mom (my daughter), Uncle Kris and oldest granddaughter Meredith and possibly my youngest brother Danny who is planning to come work some more on his “Danny Do This” list.
We’re going to Chattanooga, Tenn., for a quilt show! I haven’t been comfortable going off for any length of time for a while and decided it was just time.
AQS (American Quilt Society) puts on quilt shows all over the United States. The “big” quilt show is in April in Paducah, Ky., every year. I’m hoping to get back to that one next year also.
I’ve never been to Chattanooga and both of us are looking forward to the trip. Remy doesn’t quilt, but she is quite good on the long-arm quilting machines. She just walks up, writes her name, draws ducks, etc.
Unfortunately, all she wants to do is play a bit. I can’t convince her she needs to quilt!
We’ll be driving over to Chattanooga, via Hwy. 72, in the big black Volkswagen van. Remy will have several choices of seating and DVDs to entertain her for the seven- to 12-hour trip, depending on whom you talk to about the drive.
I’m really going to miss my beloved little red Toyota — now Mere’s little red Toyota. She’s enjoying the 35 miles a gallon of gas. I’m not quite as happy with the 20-23 mpg I’m getting. Or the 25-gallon gas tank.
I’ll also be using my new cell phone. Just got it Monday. I’ve been admiring some friends’ phones — all Samsung Galaxy types — and decided I needed a nice, new, much bigger phone.
Well, I tell you — I got a nice new, much, much bigger phone. I didn’t realize how big a phone I was ordering!
It measures roughly 6.5 by 3.5 inches. My old phone was about 2.5 by 4.5. My old phone was black, but I’ve had a pink case on it forever. My new phone is black and I don’t think they make big enough cases for it. I hope I can find a pink one!
Black is a good color though. I’m sure many of the approximately 500 quilts that will be hanging in Chattanooga will have at least a little black in them.
I’ve pretty excited. There’s supposed to be a really nice aquarium there. Remy and I love aquariums.
We’re staying in a motel at Lookout Mountain. If you know anything at all about me, you know I am terrified of heights. Remy needs to go to Lookout Mountain though. Maybe we won’t fall off.
