Haywood Fitts Jr.
Haywood Fitts Jr., 76, of Independence, died Aug. 24 at Trinity Mission Healthcare and Rehab. Formerly of Chicago, Ill, he was a welder and owned Fitts Trailer Repair.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 30 at Serenity-Autry Funeral Home Chapel in Holly Springs. Rev. Mack Conrad officiated. Burial was in Chulahoma MB Church Cemetery.
He leaves his wife, Lorraine Bryant Fitts; two sons, Kenneth Fitts of Jackson, Daniel Fitts of Coldwater; a daughter, Valerie Fitts of Coldwater; five sisters, Donnie Phillips, Roberta Lewis, both of Holly Springs, Almetter Jeffries, Jewel Fox, both of Chicago, Ethel Mae Mays of Coldwater; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Neely, Vastie Fitts and three brothers, Clay Fitts, Lucious Fitts and Willie Buford.
Pallbearers were Corey Wicks, Van Mays, Cardell Phillips, Percy Mays Jr., Kevin Fitts and George Phillips.
Eugene Hampton, 73, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 26, 2014, at his home. He was a member of Sand Hill MB Church in Lamar, a church deacon, member of the Masonic Lodge, lead singer in Stars of Faith gospel group and supervisor at Southland Air Conditioning in Memphis, Tenn.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Mt. Gilliam MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Sand Hill MB Church Cemetery. Rev. Ed Garrison officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Minnie Glover Hampton; a daughter Charita Michelle McClure of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Eugene Hampton Jr., David Earl Hampton, both of Southaven, Jeremiah J. Hampton of Jackson; four sisters, Earnestine Evans of Holly Springs, Dallie Peterson of Ashland, Dorothy Clardy, Lora Brown, both of Michigan City; five brothers, George Hampton, Willie James Hampton, Raymond Hampton, Charles Hampton, all of Ashland, Mozell Hampton of Michigan City; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Denise Reaves and a son, Eugene Alonzo Hampton.
Joey Henry, 68, of Oxford, died Aug. 22, 2014, in Oxford. He was formerly a short order cook in Atlanta.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 30 at Serenity-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Dwight Brown officiated.
He leaves a daughter, Sharon Henry of Carthage; two sisters, Bernice (Robert) Harman of Waterford, Gloria Brown of Oxford; two brothers, Harris Lee Henry of Oxford, Teddy Henry of Milwaukee, Wisc.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joel L. Henry, two sisters, Brenda Gail Henry, Virginia Faye Henry; and three brothers, Will T. Henry, Ricky Henry and Arthur Dean Henry.
Pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Robert Harmon, Zaidel Henry and Joel Henry.
Della Mae Rucker Lumpkin
Della Mae Rucker Lumpkin, 64, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 28, 2014 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. Disabled, she was a member of Harris Chapel MB Church in Ashland.
Services were held at New Dimension Salt and Light Minstries. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. LaDaryl Odum officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Iziah Lumpkin Sr.; four daughters, Lucille “Ree” Manning, Deborah Bacon, Ireka Rucker, Denikka Bacon, all of Holly Springs; a son, Iziah Lumpkin Jr. of Holly Springs; six sisters, Joann Anderson of Holly Springs, Helen Jeffries Lamb of Jackson, Willie Mae Aldridge of Bossier City, La., Sharon Nabors, Bonnie Oliver, Sandra Jones, all of Holly Springs; two brothers, Thomas Nabors, Donnie Nabors, both of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mario Lumpkin and a brother, Carl Rucker.
William E. Pegues
William E. Pegues, 90, of Lima, Ohio, formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 25, 2014 at Springview Manor Nursing Home in Lima. A self-employed chauffeur, he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Fourth St. MB Church in Lima.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 28 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cottrell Memorial Garden.
He leaves two daughters, Elmer Dean (Robert L.) Thompson of Lima, Claudia Mae Pegues of LaGrange, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Tiffany C. Jones.
H. Lee Presley
H. Lee Presley, 85, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Lake Center, died Aug. 25, 2014. The widower of Nina Olgesby Presley, he was a retired elementary principal and a member of First Baptist Church in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 28 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
He leaves his son, Tony Presley (Heather); a daughter Lori Ricketts (Jeff); and two granddaughters, Emma and Ruth. He was also a surrogate father to many in the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to any local Baptist Children’s Home.
Justin Sherrod Taylor
Justin Sherrod Taylor, 24, of Coldwater, died Aug. 24, 2014 in Coldwater. He was a member of the church choir.
Visitation will be Sept. 5, 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home and Sept. 6, 10-11 a.m. at the church. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 at Second Baptist MB Church Life Center in Coldwater, where he was a member.
He leaves his parents, Vernon and Sherron Taylor of Coldwater; two sisters, Ariana Taylor, Jasmine Taylor, both of Coldwater; three brothers, Vernon Taylor, Nautica Taylor, both of Coldwater, Chavez Taylor of Byhalia; and his grandparents, Gwendolyn and Bonell Taylor of Chicago, Ill.
Robert L. Webb
Robert L. Webb, 83, of Centreville, Ill., died Aug. 25 in Belleville, Ill.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 30 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Centreville. Burial was in Sunset Gardens of Memory in Millstadt, Ill. Officer Funeral Home of East St. Louis, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Clara E. Webb; four children, Robert (Bridget) Webb of St. Louis, Mo., Tommie (Audrey) Webb of Swansea, Ill., Clara (Larry) Greenlee of Alorton, Ill., Mary L. Webb of Centreville; a sister, Annie Lou Saulsberry of Byhalia; 27 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
