| Police probe stabbing incident A
stabbing incident under investigation by the Holly Springs Police
Department found three men being treated at Alliance Healthcare System,
according to chief Robert Pearson. The
investigation began after officers responded to a call from the
hospital Saturday, Aug. 16. They learned that 25-year-old Cortez Cowan,
of Holly Springs, was being treated for three stab wounds, one on the
arm and two on the right side of his body, Pearson said. Cowan told officers the incident occurred in the 100 block of West Park Avenue. “While
Cowan was at the hospital, two other persons who had been stabbed and
involved in this same incident arrived,” Pearson said. Daniel
Woodson, 19, was treated for five stab wounds, three to the lower left
side of the back, one to the right side of the neck and one to the
upper right shoulder area. Pearson said Woodson was transported to the
Memphis Medical Center. Clifford Rayford, 19, of
Holly Springs, was treated for one stab wound to the left shoulder area
and for several cuts on his hands, Pearson said. The incident remains under investigation. Scams Pearson advised that the public should be aware of potential “Pigeon Drop” scams. “Be
wary of individuals who promise large sums of money for a ride to a
specified location or who may ask you to withdraw large sums of money,
promising a large return for your money,” Pearson said. “They may ask
you to hold a large sum of money for them in exchange for your money
and then ask you to take them to a specified location to meet a friend.
At this point, they generally disappear with your money and leave you
holding a roll of newspaper that previously appeared to be a large roll
of dollars.” If anyone asks you to withdraw
money, Pearson advised the potential victim to talk to his or her bank
manager before withdrawing any money from the bank account. Explain to
the banker what is going on and also report it to the police. Pearson also advised not to agree to give anyone a ride in exchange for money. Labor Day patrols The
