MA ties one, wins one • Season kicks off this Friday in Marianna, Ark. the first legal day for practice for the 2008-09 football season. Brown

Lady Pats win in OT By BARRY BURLESON Editor The
Marshall Academy soccer team opened its season with a huge win. The
Lady Patriots knocked off conference foe Magnolia Heights 3-2 in
overtime. “I was very pleased with our effort,”
said head coach Catherine Mirante. “In the past two seasons our biggest
struggle was finishing. We would dominate the entire game but could
never get the ball in the net. We did a much better job of that in this

upon a time the rivalry in the Olympics was the U.S. versus Germany,
then everyone else; then for decades after World War II it was U.S.
versus Russia and then everyone else. Invariably, the U.S. sometimes
beat back these challenges and now they have a whole new enemy in these

Ole Miss kicks off season Aug. 30 vs. Memphis The Ole Miss
football team met with fans and later competed in a scrimmage that was
open to the public as part of “Meet The Rebels Day,” hosted by the UMAA
Foundation on Saturday. Ole Miss coaches and players greeted fans
and signed autographs for a crowd of approximately 4,000 in the Indoor
Practice Facility, before taking to the field for a scrimmage inside
Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. “We gave our second team a lot of work
today”, said head coach Houston Nutt. “So far we have had a really good
camp, but now we have to turn that corner as we get ready for Memphis.” The Rebels open the 2008 season on Aug. 30, at home against Memphis. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
