Sounds of Summer this Saturday
The Sounds of Summer Arts and Music Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Byhalia Walking Track, 120 College Street.
Gate admission is $5 (12 years and under free). A kids’ fun zone wristband will be available for $5.
Highlights of this year’s festival include arts and crafts booths, fantastic food, live music featuring Ingram Hill and Shy and Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry, a cornhole tournament, wellness and business exhibits, motorcycle and Model A car displays, and much more.
Early deadlines set for September 4 edition
The South Reporter announces early deadlines for its Thursday, Sept. 4, edition due to the Labor Day holiday.
Deadline for classified advertising is Friday, Aug. 29, at 12 noon. Deadline for all other advertising (legal notices and display), plus all news items, is Friday, Aug. 29, at 5 p.m.
The South Reporter office will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day.
The September 4 edition of newspaper will be distributed on its normal schedule.

Hummingbird event Sept. 5-7 at Audubon
The annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center is just a few weeks away.
The big event, which draws thousands of visitors, will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5-7, at the center located on Highway 311 just outside Holly Springs.
Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Lots of programs will be available on the schedule of events – from hummingbirds and bats, to butterflies and snakes, and much more.

Byhalia police officers respond to 32 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 32 calls last week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – miscellaneous, 8; escorts, 4; juveniles, 1; disturbances, 2; domestic, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; assists, 1; fires, 2; burglaries, 1; medical, 8; and alarm calls, 3.
Byhalia officers also made two arrests last week.
