Green helps lead North to win Marquise Green
of Byhalia closed out his high school career with a good showing in the
59th annual Bernard Blackwell All-Star Classic July 17. Green
returned the second half kickoff 45 yards to ignite a scoring drive for
the North that upped the team’s lead to 13-0. The North, led by a stout
defense, held on for a 16-7 win. The victory came
before an estimated 5,500 at Mississippi College’s Robinson-Hale
Stadium. It trimmed the South’s series lead to 26-25-4 under the
current format. Green is the first Byhalia player
in the last six seasons to be chosen for an all-star game. The school
reinstated high school football in 2002. The
senior’s running and receiving helped lead the Byhalia Indians to the
second round of the state playoffs last season. They finished 8-4. “I
thought coming from my school that no one knew about me but obviously
they did,” said Green, talking about his all-star selection in a
Clarion-Ledger sports story. Jamie Mitchell of Itawamba AHS was the head coach of the North. “We
got film and it didn’t take long to be impressed with him because he
could do so many things,” Mitchell told the Clarion-Ledger.
