Sounds of Summer August 23 in Byhalia
The Sounds of Summer Arts and Music Festival will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Byhalia Walking Track, 120 College Street.
Gate admission is $5 (12 years and under free). A kids’ fun zone wristband will be available for $5.
Highlights of this year’s festival include arts and crafts booths, fantastic food, live music featuring Ingram Hill and Shy and Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry, a cornhole tournament, wellness and business exhibits, motorcycle and Model A car displays, and much more.
Back-to-school event August 9 in Byhalia
Hearts and Hands Ministries will host a Back-to-School Bonanza on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 3-6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Byhalia.
Hearts and Hands will provide clear backpacks, school supplies, ASICS tennis shoes, back-to-school haircuts, food and fellowship, all for free.
“We plan to host at least 400 children on a first- come, first-served basis,” said Dr. Amy Woods. “The child must be present to receive the supplies.”
Hearts and Hands Ministries operates three days a week – Tuesdays noon-2 p.m., Thursdays, 4 p.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday morning, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. The ministry is in need of either back-to-school items or financial donations to cover the cost of the backpacks and school supplies.
Area students going back to school soon
It’s back-to-school time for area students.
Students in the Holly Springs School District return to classes first – on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Starting a new school year next Monday, Aug. 11, will be the Marshall County School District, Marshall Academy, Holy Family, Heritage Christian Academy and Bethlehem Christian School.
The first day of school at Friendship Christian Academy is Monday, Aug. 18.
Byhalia police officers respond to 26 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 26 calls last week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – miscellaneous, 6; escorts, 5; juveniles, 2; thefts, 1; disturbances, 1; animals, 2; assists, 1; medical, 3; harassment, 2; trespassing, 1; and alarm calls, 2.
Byhalia officers also made five arrests during the past week.
