Byhalia luncheon set for August 15
The Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce announces its quarterly membership luncheon Thursday, Aug. 15.
The host is Northcentral Electric Power Association, and it will be held at The Flame, Byhalia United Methodist Church, 2511 Church Street. Sheriff Kenny Dickerson and his crew will serve fish for lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. The program starts at 12 noon.
Guest speaker is Sharon Younger of Younger and Associates. Her topic will be regional economic development and the impact of Interstate 269.
Cost for the luncheon is $5 for members with reservations – and $10 for all others.

Meet the Teacher Thursday at Byhalia
The administration, faculty and staff of all Byhalia schools would like to invite parents and students to attend Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Parents of Byhalia Elementary are encouraged to bring supplies on this night in order to make the first day of school run more smoothly.
Supply lists for elementary students can be found on the district website at http://marshallcountysd.or/under the Parents Tab.
H.W. Byers hosting Back-to-School Night
H.W. Byers Elementary School and H.W. Byers Middle School will host a Back-to-School Night for students in grades 1-8 on Thursday, August 8, from 5:30-7 p.m.
All students and parents are invited to come by and meet teachers and drop off supplies.
H.W. Byers High School will host Freshman Orientation on Thursday, August 8, from 6-7 p.m. All freshman students and parents are invited to attend.
Byhalia police officers respond to 40 calls
The Byhalia Police Department responded to 40 calls during the past week.
Chief Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 1; miscellaneous, 20; escorts, 4; disturbances, 2; domestic, 2; animals, 2; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 1; and medical, 7.
Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week, according to Chief Looney.
