Lady Pats start
season this weekend
Expectations are high as the Marshall Academy softball team features a lot of youth but some experience, too, in 2013.
“This is a young group, but we expect big things from each and every one of them,” said coach Carlton Gibson.
The Lady Patriots, ranked second in the state in Class A behind Sylva Bay, throw the first pitch of their season this weekend, July 26-27, in the Bayou Tournament at Cleveland. The first home date is next Thursday, Aug. 1, versus North Delta. The doubleheader starts at 4 p.m.

The 2013 edition of Marshall Academy football is getting plenty of pre-season hype.
The Patriots, who start pre-season practice next Thursday, Aug. 1, finished second in the state in Class AA last season. This year Marshall drops down to Class A.
MA has never won a state championship in football.
Rust College hosts annual golf classic

More on the WNBA
This is not about the British Open, in which the number one golfer in the world, Tiger Woods, went down in the brush (or dunes), but it should be mentioned that Phil Mickelson won his first British Open in Muirfield, Scotland, and his fifth major title. He had recovered from five strokes back to come out on top. Tiger couldn’t overcome a two-stroke deficit.
