Bing, 69, of Waterford, died Jan. 12, 2013, in Oxford. He was a member
of Holly Hill Baptist Church and a factory worker in coated abrasive
with Wurlitzer. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 15 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. He
leaves his wife, Sue Bing; his mother, Christine Bing Thomas of
Waterford; his son, Billy E. Bing of Waterford; four brothers, Bobby
Bing, Mickey Bing, both of Waterford, Jerry Bing of Victoria, Jimmy
Bing of Holly Springs; three sisters, Judy Wright of Eupora, Janie Bing

Elizabeth
Crumb Brown, 86, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 8, 2013, at Baptist
Hospital-North MS in Oxford. She was the widow of Columbus Crumb. She
was a member of Providence MB Church in Holly Springs, a member of the
church mother’s board and choir member, and a retired domestic worker. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at New Dimension Salt & Light
Ministries. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Alonzo Johnson
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves three children, Janie
Jones of Memphis, Tenn., Loretta Brown of Holly Springs, Wendell Brown
of Ashland; two sisters, Bessie Bryson of Slayden, Mary Shed of
Maywood, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three children, Walter Lewis Jones, Roy Chester Brown and Gloria DeHaven. La’Neka Oni Byers
La’Neka
Oni Byers, 35, died Jan. 3, 2013. She graduated from Hamilton High
School Class of 1995 with honors. She was employed at First Tennessee
Airways Financial Center as a financial service representative. Services
were held on Jan. 12 at Cummings Street MB Church, Memphis, Tenn.
Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Pastor Andrew
Robinson officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. She leaves a son, Corday KeShawn
Moten; her mother, Girlender Byers; a brother, Anthony Byers; five
sisters, Kimilah Byers (Patrick Lee), Akilah Byers, Jamilah Byers,
Sha’Maya “Tracy Lynn” Starks, and LaShonda Patterson; and her
grandmother, Missour Byers-Sanders. Pallbearers
were DaWayne Starks, Patrick Pegues, Anthony Campbell, Karoomba Jones,
Jarvis Braxton and Eric Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Devilyn
Starks, Laterrance Nixon, Markus Pegues, Mark Pegues, Cortez Moten,
Tevin Moten, Terry Scott, Dieon Ueal, D’Andre Braxton and Maurice Lee. John Caldwell John
“Connor” Caldwell, 5, of Byhalia, died Jan. 12, 2013. When he was an
infant, his parents dedicated him to God at First Baptist Church of
Byhalia. His family appreciates the dedication, love and support
provided by Alejandro Berenstein, M.D., Connor’s doctor at St.
Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York, and the many physicians, nurses
and caregivers at LeBoneur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Memorial
services were held on Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of
Olive Branch. There was a private burial service at Autumn Woods
Memorial Park Cemetery in Olive Branch. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive
Branch was in charge of arrangements. He leaves
his parents, Tony and Kim Caldwell; siblings Courtney, Cameron and
Katie Caldwell, all of Byhalia; and paternal grandparents, Jim and
Sandra Caldwell of Tupelo. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Karter Caldwell; maternal grandmother Margie Gober
Jenkins; and maternal grandfather, Carl Hardin Byrd. In

Edwards, 83, of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Potts Camp, died Jan. 5,
2013, in Nashville. She was a member of Haywood Hills Baptist Church
and a telephone operator. Services were held at
11 a.m. on Jan. 9 at Bethlehem Methodist Church. Burial was in the

her husband, Derward Edwards; her daughter, Janet Borcherding (Bo) of

Pointer Mason, 79, of Moscow, Tenn., died Jan. 5, 2013, at Baptist
Hospital-Collierville, Tenn. She was the widow of John T. Mason. She
was a member of New Bethel MB Church in Moscow. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan
City. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Freddie Franklin

Lawrence
Shamley, 24, of Augusta, Ga., formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 11,
2012, at University Hospital in Augusta. He attended Holly Springs High
School and Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of youth
and mass choir. Services were held at 11 a.m. on
Jan. 12 at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, where he was a
member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Superintendent Albert

Shamley of Augusta; his mother, Jennie (Wayne) Fair of Holly Springs;
three sisters, Laquita Falkner, Sada Shamley, both of Illinois,
Sharmain Shamley of Florida; three brothers, Decoya Falkner of Las
Crus, New Mexico, Montrae Brannon of Illinois, Dana Falkner of
Oklahoma; and his god brother, Jonathan Bass of Holly Springs. Mary R. Steward Mary R. Steward, 71, of Byhalia, died Jan. 5, 2013, at her home. Services were held at 2 p.m. on January 8 at Hernando Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Lebanon Cemetery. She
leaves her husband of 53 years, Johnny Steward; two daughters, Mary
Gwen Dignowity (Konrad) of Byhalia, Robin Steward of Memphis, Tenn.; a
son, Chris Steward of Holly Springs; two grandchildren and two
great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a son, John David Steward. Ether Walker Ether
Walker, 92, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 5, 2013. She was the widow of
Eugene Walker, a retired bus driver, a member of the Women’s
Improvement Organization and a Baptist. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Smith Grove MB Church. Burial was in

Springs; three sisters, Lorine Hope of Byhalia, Dorothy Stinson, Lucy
Jones, both of Holly Springs; three brothers, James Beard of Byhalia,
William Beard, Major Beard, both of Memphis, Tenn.; 31 grandchildren,
49 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Eara Inell West Eara Inell West, 86, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 13, 2013. She was the widow of Olden West and a Baptist. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Memphis Memory Garden. Bro. Donald Worsham officiated. She
leaves a daughter, Linda Parker (Dave) of Indialantic, Fla.; two sons,
Royce West (Lisa) of Little Rock, Ark., Larry O. West (Janet) of Potts
Camp; two sisters, Wilma Sisson, Barbara Dowden, both of Jackson,
