Qualifying continues for municipal elections Only one additional candidate, since last week’s newspaper, has qualified to seek municipal positions in this year’s elections. In
Holly Springs, Calvin James, who currently serves as alderman of Ward
2, has qualified to run for the alderman at-large position. Also
there was a spelling mistake last week in the name of one of the
candidates entering the race for Ward 3 alderman – Gary Tunstall. The
newspaper apologizes for the error. No additional candidates qualified in Byhalia, and no one has signed up to run for municipal races yet in Potts Camp. The deadline for qualifying is Friday, March 8, at 5 p.m. Each candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the city or ward for which he or she is seeking office. The primary elections (if needed) will be held Tuesday, May 7, with a runoff date of Tuesday, May 21. Municipal general elections are set for Tuesday, June 4. The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday, July 1. For
more information on the municipal elections, call the respective city
halls – Holly Springs, 252-4652; Byhalia, 838-2135; and Potts Camp,
