Keepsake title edition
I received a special package in the mail Saturday.
In it was a special edition of The Birmingham News.
Close to Nowhere
Milk, bread and beer?
• I’m blatantly stealing my headline from Milton’s column. As soon as the bad weather started I began to wonder if we had enough bread and milk to get through the night.
I will have to admit, until I saw Milton’s column it never occurred to me to wonder if we had enough beer. Since I don’t like beer, I don’t care if we have any.

Tales from Mississippi Presbyterians
Most people know I’m writing a history of Mississippi Presbyterians. A project like this takes a long time and not every tale I’ve been told can be included. A few, however, should be recorded.
Once upon a time, about 50 years ago, the Natchez Presbyterians decided to organize a mission church in the Natchez suburbs, and the Rev. William H. McAtee Sr., of Brookhaven was on the commission established for this purpose.
