Making beach friends
Kay and Laura Wheeler, Mary Clay and Gene Brooks and children, Caitlyn and Grady, Elizabeth Skelton and Tanner Cook returned Saturday from a week in Gulf Shores. They were joined on the front end of the trip by Hank Wheeler of Newnan, Ga.
If you go down to Gulf Shores, their zoo is an absolute must visit! One morning, we went shortly after they opened. It is a very interactive experience - you can play with lemurs, hold a huge snake, baby alligator and pet kangaroos. The paths through the zoo are narrow, so you have a very up-close view of all of their animals. It is an experience I will never forget and hope to repeat in years to come.
While on the beach, I met some new friends. I took my ear phones with me, hoping to drown out whatever noise would take away the beauty of the ocean. I realized I did not need the ear phones; the folks in front of us had amazing music. Every song that came on was something that set off some memory or time frame. I asked them if it was a music app or a CD. Turned out, it was a multi-generational family reunion happening and one of the sisters in the group created the amazing mix of music.
Talking to them further, they told where they all lived - all from up North. One set had travelled 1,000 miles for the reunion. They were the nicest bunch of people I have met in a really long time and, thanks to social media, we are all going to keep in touch!
