Items from two burglaries have been recovered by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Power
tools - one grinder and three nail drivers - were recovered from a
burglary of a property at Mt. Pleasant and Clark roads, he said. Computers,
a printer, a fax machine and typewriter, as well as several boxes of
files taken in a burglary of the Mt. Pleasant Head Start Center, were
recovered from a residence on Baldwin Street in Memphis, Tenn.
Investigators continue to seek more suspects in these burglaries,
according to investigator Kelly McMillen with the sheriff’s department. Dickerson said there is “tremendous overcrowding in the jail.” “We
are at almost disaster level, as far as housing,” he said. “The
capacity at the jail is nearly 25 percent over capacity at this time
and varies day-to-day.” Several sources are at play in the overcrowding, he said. Several
state inmates are awaiting room at Mississippi Department of
Corrections, Dickerson said, because MDOC is also at capacity. The
jail is also holding several people for lunacy and several are awaiting
beds at Alcohol and Drug rehabilitation facilities, he said. A large portion of the inmate population is due to the arrest of individuals for failure to pay child support, he said. With
grand jury coming up and another session of court to follow, Dickerson
said he expects to be squeezed for space at the jail further unless bed
space is found for
