Swearing-In Tour By SUE

Citizens want to study pool situation By SUE WATSON Holly Springs’ only public swimming pool is closed again this year, and some citizens attended the board of aldermen meeting June 3 to argue the city should make a stronger effort to reopen it.
Bypass funding not likely this year By SUE WATSON County consultant Gary Anderson updated the board of supervisors June 2 on legislative matters, saying finding money to complete the paving of the Highway 4 bypass north of Holly Springs is not forthcoming. Stolen items recovered By SUE WATSON Items from two burglaries have been recovered by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Power tools - one grinder and three nail drivers - were recovered from a burglary of a property at Mt. Pleasant and Clark roads, he said.
Downtown bank under renovation By SUE WATSON A slogan “Pardon Our Progress” is mounted on signs at the back entrances to the Bank of Holly Springs on Memphis Street while contractors rebuild the drive-thru, parking lots and utilities to the oldest state bank in Mississippi. Audubon schedules youth camp Strawberry Plains Audubon Center announces its 2008 Summer Ecology Camp. Camp dates are July 14-18 for students entering grades 2 to 4 and July 21-25 for students entering grades 5 to 7. The time is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Students will be able to take daily nature hikes, explore various habitats, participate in guided field experiences and learn about our native plants and animals. The cost is $125 per week. Scholarships are available thanks to a grant from Wild Birds Unlimited and National Wildlife Federation. Registration deadline is June 27. Enrollment is limited, so register early. Byhalia police respond to 45 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 45 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – four alarm calls, five motor vehicle accidents, seven disturbances, one domestic call, three escorts, one animal-related call, one juvenile-related call, two assists, seven medical assistance calls, one fire, 12 miscellaneous calls and one report of damaged property. Byhalia police also made two arrests – one for resisting arrest, reckless driving, no insurance, DUI and assault on police; and another for DUI and careless driving.
