Primaries June 3; absentee voting open
Absentee voting is now available for the Tuesday, June 3, primaries.
The Marshall County circuit clerk’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will also have extended hours for absentee voting – Saturday, May 24, and Saturday, May 31, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Saturday, May 31, at noon is the deadline for voting absentee in person. Mailed absentee ballots must be returned to the office by Monday, June 2, at 5 p.m.
On the Democratic ballot June 3 are races for United States Senate and U.S. House of Representatives (1st Congressional District).
Democrats running for U.S. Senate are Travis W. Childers, William Bond Compton Jr., Bill Marcy and Jonathan Rawl.
Democrats seeking the House position are Ron E. Dickey and Rex N. Weathers.
Senate candidates on the Republican primary ticket are Thomas L. Carey, Thad Cochran and Chris McDaniel.
Alan Nunnelee is the only Republican candidate for the House position.
Voter identification will be required for the first time during this primary.

Early deadlines set for next week’s edition
The South Reporter announces early deadlines for its May 29 edition, due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Deadline for classified advertising is Friday, May 23, at 12 noon. Deadline for all other advertising, including legal notices, is Friday, May 23, at 5 p.m. Deadline for all news and photos submitted for that week’s newspaper is also Friday, May 23, at 5 p.m.
The South Reporter office will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day and will reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27.
“We appreciate everyone’s help in meeting these early deadlines,” said editor Barry Burleson.
Main Street sponsors exercise sessions
The Holly Springs Main Street Chamber invites everyone to exercise on the courthouse lawn every Saturday morning at 7. Admission is $5.
“Join us as we get Holly Springs/Marshall County healthy,” said Shanette Folsom, executive director of the Main Street Chamber.
The classes are conducted by certified fitness specialist Sanchez Blake.
