No movie this week; final showing May 30
“Moonlight, Magnolias, Movies and More” will not be held this Thursday, May 23.
The final movie in the series will be shown on Thursday, May 30. The event, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is sponsored by the Holly Springs Main Street Chamber.
The May 30 movie will be shown free to the public in Spring Hollow Park.
Early deadlines set for next week’s edition
The South Reporter announces early deadlines for its next edition due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Deadline for classified advertising is this Friday, May 24, at 12 noon. Deadline for all other advertising, including legal notices, and all news items is this Friday, May 24, at 5 p.m. The South Reporter offices will be closed Monday, May 27.
Next week’s edition of the newspaper, dated Thursday, May 30, will be printed and distributed on the regular schedule.
Food for Fines in May at county library
During the whole month of May, individuals can bring canned food items into any branch of the Marshall County Library, Holly Springs, Potts Camp or Byhalia, and take care of their library fines.
One can is equal to $1 in fines. All donations will go to the Marshall County Food Pantry at New Hope Village in Holly Springs.
“Help a family in need,” said library director Amanda McDonald.
Byhalia festival slated for June 13-15
The Byhalia Lions Club is getting ready for its summer festival, a fund-raiser for the club, the FFA, Byhalia fire and police departments and Christmas for the troops and other worthy causes.
The festival opens on Thursday night, June 13, at 5 p.m. with a carnival and a talent contest put on by the Byhalia Arts Council. Thursday night is arm-band night and everyone who purchases one can ride all night at one cost.
J Bar B Rodeo will put on a competition for the Mid-South Rodeo Association on Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
Entertainment Friday and Saturday begins at 9 p.m. Eddie Smith, and Papa Don McMinn’s Family Band are slated for Friday evening. The Wolf River Rednecks play Saturday night. Parking is free.
Everyone is urged to come out and enjoy the fun.
