It’s a small house in rural Marion County, Ala., but it’s a house packed with wonderful memories.
Friday and Saturday, my sisters and I (with help from others in our family) started going through my mother’s house – deciding who wanted what, the items we wanted to sell or give away, and others just to trash. It was a chore I had dreaded. But it is one that had to be done.

Celebrate good times
• Sunday, my youngest granddaughter — the baby — was 16 years old.
When asked what she wanted for a birthday party the answer was quick — same Friday nights as usual — karaoke at JB’s.
Opportunities in the tabloids
Have you ever looked closely at the ads in the various tabloids available at Walmart, the grocery store, etc?
Why, you can change your whole life!
Mississippi plagued by buffalo gnats
Mississippi is virtually tied with Louisiana for the wettest state in North America. Add heat to this and you get bugs. Lots of them.
Most recently Mississippi has been plagued by black flies, also known as buffalo gnats. The closer you live to the swamp, the more your outdoor activities have been disrupted by these obnoxious creatures.
Letter to the Editor
Honor our soldiers
With so many families who have had a loved one in the service, you begin to see firsthand how much men and women give up for our country. You also see so much that is taken for granted, freedom of expression to fly the American flag.
Please, if your flag is faded or just worn out, replace it. As a family of one who is still serving, and as American citizens, we feel this is the least we could do to show respect and honor our country and soldiers. Some returned home, some are disabled, some are still serving in a war zone. Please keep them in your prayers. Let’s not forget our POWs and those who gave the ultimate price for all.
Our hope is you will feel the same and want a new flag. If you can’t purchase, call 662-838-2561. We’ll replace it at no cost.
