The accident Friday morning occurred in downtown Potts Camp, at the intersection of highways 178 East and 349. |
A
Holly Springs Fire Department pumper truck turned on its side Friday,
while responding to a fire call on Highway 349 in the Bethlehem
community. The pumper tanker was totaled and four
firefighters were taken to Baptist Hospital in Oxford for treatment of
injuries and released, according to chief Kenny Holbrook. The
call to the fire came in at 10:49 a.m. and firefighters responded at
that time, said Chris Watts with the Holly Springs Fire Department.
Holly Springs was responding through a mutual-aid agreement when the
fully-loaded pumper tanker, with four firefighters aboard, tipped over
at the intersection of Highway 178 East and Highway 349 in Potts Camp. The house fire at 3223 Highway 349 South was put out by neighbors. Holbrook said the department is “just fortunate none were seriously hurt or killed.” Rural
firefighters turned out for the call as well, including some from Potts
Camp, Waterford, Cayce and the Potts Camp/Bethlehem fire departments. Potts
Camp fire chief David Cook said units from the Potts Camp/Bethlehem
fire departments turned out to fight the fire and were aided by deputy
Jason Gurley and a neighbor, Jessica Day. The home sustained water and
smoke damage but the fire was put out before it had a chance to spread,
Cook said. The fire was contained in the garage area but had started in
a wall between the kitchen and the garage, he said. The fire appeared
to have been caused by electrical wires, he said. Potts Camp/Bethlehem firefighters were already on the scene when the accident in Potts Camp occurred, Cook said.
