A
happy group of Patriots all got the feel of a second straight North
State championship trophy Thursday.
But
this Marshall Academy baseball team hopes to touch a first this week. Full Story
Pritchett best in North On April 29, the
Marshall golf team put it all on the line, trying to finish in the top
four at north half (in River Oaks, La.) in order to qualify for state. These
young golfers had never been down this road before and soon found out
just how important every stroke they could save would mean when the
time came to total scores up. Full Story
Hawks first in region The Holly Springs High School boys followed up their Division 1-3A track and field championship with a Region 1-3A championship. In the recent region meet, held at Oxford High School, the Hawks placed first out of 10 schools competing with 125 points. Full Story

Megan
Watkins, a senior at Marshall Academy, won the pole-vaulting
competition at the Class AA State Track and Field Meet last weekend,
clearing 8’-00,” a new Mississippi Association of Independent Schools
record in girls Class AA. Her success in pole vaulting is a first for
the school in girls, according to coaches Tommy Gunn and Susan Rodgers.
It’s her third state championship in the sport (two years at Potts
Camp). Three other MA athletes also participated in the state meet.
Hayleigh Mason placed third in the girls shot put (30-04.50), A.J. Boyd
sixth in the boys triple jump (36-06) and Randy Love seventh in the
boys long jump (18-02.75). |
Cardinals win region The Potts Camp boys took top honors in the Region 2-2A Track and Field Meet held April 29 on their campus. The Cardinals totaled 169 points, followed by Calhoun City with 100, East Union with 93.50 and Bruce with 67. Full Story
Behind The Scoreboard By Claude Vinson Playoff time The
second round of the NBA got underway with two games on tap for the
weekend. The Oklahoma City Thunder had the pleasure of contending with
an old Western Conference nemesis which is developing into an
interesting rivalry. Our closest pro team, the Memphis Grizzlies, was
seemingly prepared to meet the old foe after a spirit lifting win over
the Los Angeles Clippers. Full Story
Ashland second; Byers girls fifth The Ashland girls and boys took second place in the Region 2-1A Track and Field Meet April 29 at Potts Camp High School. Teams from H.W. Byers also competed, with the Lady Lions finishing fifth and the Lions eighth. Full Story
Golf tourney May 31 to benefit Marshall The Walter Utley Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, May 31, at Kirkwood National Golf Club in Holly Springs. Proceeds
from the tournament benefit the Marshall Academy capital campaign –
“Moving Forward, One Gift At A Time.” Registration fee for the four-man
scramble is $400 per team. Greens fees, cart and lunch are included.
There will also be prizes, fun and fellowship. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Call Marshall Academy at 252-3449 or Kirkwood at 252-4888 to sign up or for more information.
