ObituariesAlice Jane Austin Alice Jane Austin, 69, of Byhalia, died May 4, 2013, at Delta Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on May 6 at Emory United Methodist Church, where
she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Leon Burton
officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She
leaves her husband, Jimmy Wayne Austin; her son, Darrell Wayne Austin
(Kimberli) of Byhalia; two brothers, Buddy Collum of Senatobia, Joe
Collum of Memphis; a sister, Nancy Naramore of Byhalia; and two

Roscoe “Buddy” Bean, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Benton County,
died May 3, 2013, at Methodist Hospital-Germantown in Germantown, Tenn.
He was the widower of Ernestine Bean. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War and a retired baker with Heinemann’s Bakery. Services
were held at 1 p.m. on May 10 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar, where he
was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Christopher
Griggs officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements. He leaves a daughter, Janice
Buckner of Chicago, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Mary Boyd of Chicago; two
sons, Willie Bean of Lamar, Kenneth Bean of Memphis; a stepson, Carnell
W. Hoggs of Holly Springs; 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren. Bradley Eugene Bryant Bradley
Eugene Bryant, 22, of Holly Springs, died April 29, 2013, at his home.
He was Pentecostal and a member of World Faith Ministries. Services
were held at 11 a.m. on May 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Waldrop officiated. He
leaves his wife, Loretta Bryant; a son, William James Bryant of Holly
Springs; his mother, Mae Hymans (Bobby) of Holly Springs; his father,
James Bryant (Rachel) of Olive Branch and Ruth Bryant, step-mother, of
Holly Springs; three brothers, Bobby Hymans Jr. of Holly Springs, Cody
Bupous, Mitchell Bupous, both of Olive Branch; five sisters, Teresa
Bryant, Brittney Hymans, Rebecca Bryant, all of Holly Springs, Sara
Bupous, Nikki Bupous, both of Olive Branch; and grandparents Betty
Dees, Dorothy Bryant, Vern Bryant, Joyce Hymans, John and Nancy

Charles Ivory Dukes, 58, of Holly Springs, died April 25, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1955 in Marshall County. A
memorial service was held May 4 at Redeemed Fellowship Ministries at 2
p.m. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He
leaves his parents, Quincy Lee Pegues and Hattie Mae Dukes; a daughter,
Andrena Stinson of Holly Springs; three brothers, Quincy Pegues, Jimmy
Pegues, both of Memphis, Tenn., Lester Pegues of Missouri; six sisters,
Beatrice Payne, Mushida Talley, both of Holly Springs, Pricilla
Wiseman, Bernice Pegues, Katrina Blackman, Rose Isom, Lila Pegues, all
of Memphis; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Micheal Pegues; and a sister, Sharon D. Taylor. Matthew M. Gorman
Matthew
M. Gorman, 38, of Holly Springs, died April 20, 2013, in Mt. Pleasant.
He was a graduate of H.W. Byers High School Class of 1995 and a truck
driver with McLane Food Service. Services were
held at 1 p.m. on April 27 at Concord MB Church in Slayden, where he
was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Clyde Williams
was eulogist. Rev. LaDaryl Odum offered words of encouragement. J.F.

leaves his wife, LaToya Bowen Gorman; a son, Monterious Gorman of Holly
Springs; his mother, Josephine Gorman of Holly Springs; his father,
Kimmie Waller of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Deleicia Webb, Andreka
Waller, Kenya Waller, all of Memphis; and three brothers, Marcus
Gorman, DeUndra Gorman, both of Holly Springs, Mario Waller of
Lakeland, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mashunti Gorman. Jimmie Glen Holbrook Jimmie Glen Holbrook, 68, of Southaven, died April 28, 2013. Services
were held at 10 a.m. on May 2 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch.
Burial was in Holbrook Cemetery in Holly Springs. He
leaves daughters Dabnei LeBlanc (Joseph), Jamie Holbrook (fianceé Donn
Anderson); sisters Connie Parker (Ray), Peggie Winter (Billy); and

Lue Howery Raimey, 55, of Lamar, died May 5, 2013, at her home. She was
a church usher, and manager at Federal Express in Memphis, Tenn. Services
will be held at 12 noon on May 11 at New Life Christian Center in
Ashland, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

son, Kevin Howery of Memphis; her mother, Marion Slate Howery of Lamar;
five sisters, Mary Daugherty of Collierville, Tenn., Barbara Howery of
Lamar, Jackie Howery of Katy, Tx., Verlean Dowdy of Aurora, Ill.,
Denise Howery of Memphis; four brothers, Lenton Howery of Joplin, Mo.,
Mark Howery of Holly Springs, Sylvester Hampton, Morris Smith, both of
Memphis; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Delois Hampton and David Howery. Joseph Thomas Joseph
Thomas, 80, of Holly Springs, died April 30, 2013, at Baptist
Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was the widower of Arnetta Wilson
Thomas. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a retired
factory worker. Services were held at 2 p.m. on
May 4 at Victoria Church of Christ, where he was a member. Burial was
in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn., on May 7. Bro.
David Jackson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements. He leaves his sister,
Ceola Mitchell-Sigers of Brookside, Ala.; a brother, James Taylor of
Gary, Ind.; and a dear friend, Rosie Stinson Payton of Holly Springs. He was preceded in death by brothers Curtis and Chrysel. Gradie Lee Poplar Thompson
Gradie
Lee Poplar Thompson, 94, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Benton County,
died April 23, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She
was the widow of Joe John Thompson and a former church secretary. Services
were held at 2 p.m. on April 28 at Hardaway MB Church in Michigan City,
where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Robert

arrangements. She leaves a daughter, Louise
Thompson of Memphis; a granddaughter, Tracey (Charles) Oliver of
Memphis; and two great-grandchildren, Ciara Oliver, Joshua Oliver, both
