Police chief asks to restructure By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Holly Springs Police Chief William Hollowell has recommended a plan to restructure the police department. The project, presented recently to the mayor and board of aldermen, involves some promotions and some goal setting. Hollowell
said there are four divisions within the department – narcotics,
detectives, patrol operations, and services. He wants to upgrade the
leadership over these divisions and give some raises to make the
department more competitive in salary with surrounding cities its size. Full Story

Blue skies welcomed visitors to the 75th annual Holly Springs Pilgrimage tour of antebellum homes last weekend. Breezy
weather Friday meant some people were still bundling up or trying to
warm up in the sun on the downtown square, as the rich history and
culture of the city charmed visitors and hometown folk alike. Temperatures warmed up more Saturday and Sunday. Full Story
Asset forfeiture nets $900,000 to county By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department just received a financial shot in
the arm – $900,000 from the Asset Forfeiture Office of the FBI, the
county’s share of a tobacco criminal case. Dickerson
said the total county’s share, as the result of the work of the late
Jimmy Warren, could eventually come closer to $1 million. He said
Warren worked with the FBI to help crack a very large black-market
tobacco operation several years ago. The investigation took place in
several states, including some tobacco that was warehoused in
Mississippi illegally. The total assets forfeited including cash and
vehicles came to several million dollars worth of seized property. Full Story

Springs celebrated another first last week with the Main Street Chamber

Supervisors overrule zoning on double-wide in county R-E zone By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Two
residents living off Highway 311 near Mt. Pleasant recently appealed a
zoning decision before the Marshall County Board of Supervisors. Rodney
Cothern and Rhonda Crabb said they oppose special exceptions for people
to move mobile homes into a Residential Estates zone unless there is a

Byhalia police respond to 29 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 29 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 4;
miscellaneous, 9; escorts, 4; thefts, 4; disturbances, 1; assists, 1;
motor vehicle accidents, 2; and medical, 4. Byhalia police officers also made three arrests during the past week.
Holly Springs police respond to 149 calls Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department responded to 149 calls last week, according to chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 16; alarms, 20; larcenies, 3; accidents,
12; funeral escorts, 5; domestics, 6; assists to agencies, 4; 911
hang-ups, 1; assaults, 3; malicious mischief, 2; burglaries, 7; auto
burglaries, 1; shots fired, 1; and 68 miscellaneous calls. The
