Weekend road trip

We traveled south again this past weekend and were blessed with beautiful weather.

I only packed shorts, with plans to go to the Southern Miss versus Tulane baseball game Saturday afternoon in Hattiesburg in 80-degree weather with sunshine.

• You meet the nicest people working at the newspaper. Some of them are weekend Mississippians and weekday Memphis, Tennesseans, but they’re Mississippi friends.

I got a package last week here at work. I picked it up and took it home as I’d just left the doctor’s office after being told I was dying of an intestinal virus. Well, OK, Dr. Hawkins didn’t even remotely imply that I might be dying, but I’m still inferring it!

By the time you are reading these words, the 75th Holly Springs Pilgrimage will be upon us! It is my favorite time of year — not only is all the beauty of spring a rich feast for the eyes, but there’s lots of good food, too — Charles Dean used to say that by the time Pilgrimage was over there was not a live chicken left in North Mississippi.

The Cayce Fire Department would like to thank Kenny Dickerson and his crew for preparing and cooking the food for the annual fish fry on April 5.
