Recipes from Martha Ruth Leonard Cream of Broccoli Soup 1/4 cup chopped green onions and tops 1 tbsp. parsley, finely chopped Sauté
onions and parsley; add chicken stock or broth, broccoli, bouillon and
Half & Half or milk. Simmer over low heat 30 minutes. Add bay leaf
last 10 minutes of cooking. Remove bay leaf and serve. Serves 6. Shrimp Souffle 6 slices bread, trimmed 3 eggs, beaten Cut bread and cheese into cubes; layer the shrimp, bread and cheese in well-buttered casserole. Beat together eggs, milk and seasonings and pour over casserole. Let chill 3 hours or overnight. Bake at 350° for about 1 hour, until firm and lightly browned. Serves 4.
Pages from the Past 10 Years Ago - March 27, 2003 Qualified Ciara Boyle, a fourth grader at Marshall Academy, recently competed in the Branson-Nashville talent show in Branson. She received enough votes to qualify for the final round of the Fowler Talent Showcase, with the grand prize of a $100,000 recording contract. Ciara is the daughter of Amy and Keith (Skeeter) Boyle. Mississippi Senate backs President Bush, troops The Mississippi State Senate voted overwhelmingly to back a Senate resolution in support of President George W. Bush and American troops deployed to the Middle East. The resolution was presented on the eve of a deadline issued by President Bush to Saddam Hussein, asking the dictator to step aside or face military action. 25 Years Ago - March 31, 1988 Spending money for space Jarvis DeBerry of Holly Springs received a check from Bert Bonds of Holly Springs to use as spending money when he participates in a NASA space mission simulation for two weeks in July. Jarvis is one of only 30 students in the state chosen for the program. Outstanding student Casey Mayer, son of Cary and Joanne Mayer of Potts Camp, has been selected as an Outstanding High School Student. He was selected as a new member because of outstanding merit and accomplishments. Casey is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Clayton of Potts Camp. 50 Years Ago - March 28, 1963 Initiated into fraternity Sandra Russell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Russell of Holly Springs, was recently initiated into the Epsilon Gamma Epsilon fraternity at the University of Mississippi, an honorary fraternity for students majoring in office administration. Flatt & Scruggs at Potts Camp The junior class at Potts Camp High School is sponoring a program with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, April 2. These Grand Ole Opry stars are wellknown entertainers and you are assured of a good time! |
