Broccoli and Cauliflower Scallop
1 lb. fresh broccoli cleaned and cooked
1/4 cup butter or margarine divided
broccoli and cauliflower in alternate rows in a 12x8x2 inch baking
dish. Drain mushrooms, set aside. Combine mushroom liquid with milk.
Melt 3 tbsps. butter in heavy saucepan over low heat; add flour,
stirring with a whisk until smooth. Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Gradually add milk mixture, cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat
until thickened and bubbly. Add cheese; stir until cheese melts. Add
mushrooms. Spoon sauce over broccoli and cauliflower. Combine remaining
1 tbsp. butter and stuffing mix. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake at 400°
for 10 minutes. Yield: 8 servings.
1 tbsp. veg. shortening
1 cup milk
Cream shortening, butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Combine eggs and milk, add to creamed mixture. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture and beat until thoroughly blended. Pour into a well-greased loaf pan and bake at 325° for 45 minutes. Serve hot with plenty of butter. Yield: 1 loaf.

County, friends honor Ash for 40 years service
Marshall County Chancery Court deputy clerk Madalynne Ash was surprised March 16 as family, friends, county courthouse staff and elected officials threw her a 40th anniversary party. Ash, from Potts Camp, worked for four years for the county sheriff and 36 years as a chancery clerk.
Block party, parade honor state champs
The City of Holly Springs hosted a “block party” last Thursday afternoon to honor the new crowned kings of the state’s 3A division in high school basketball. The Holly High Hawks won the title a week ago in Jackson. An emotional coach Naylond Hayes thanked everyone for their unwavering support.
25 Years Ago - March 30, 1989
CADET wins first
The CADET band performed themselves right to the top, winning first place in the Quitman County High School Band jamboree last week. They competed against seven high school bands and one junior college band. The band has a solid two-year history of honors in the competition.
Donald Pogue, associate dairyman with the North MS Branch Experiment Station, received the Master Dairyman certificate. Pogue was among 37 state dairymen recognized for milk production over the state DHIA butterfat average.

1964 X-ray bus schedule
The x-ray bus will visit in Marshall and Benton counties March 31 though April 7, for the purpose of taking chest x-rays on those 15 years of age or older. If you have not had a chest x-ray during the past year, please do so at one of the x-ray bus stops.
Seniors leave for Kentucky
The seniors at Holly High School boarded a bus last Wednesday for their class trip to Nashville, Tenn., Mammoth Caves and other points of interest in Kentucky.
