Editor’s Note – Lois Swaney Shipp will receive the 2014 Award of Merit from the Mississippi Historical Society this Saturday in Jackson. The following is a letter notifying “Miss Lois” of the honor.
Dear Miss Lois:
I am pleased to inform you on behalf of Peggy Jeanes, chairwoman, Awards Committee, Mississippi Historical Society, and the other members of the committee that the committee has voted to present the society’s Award of Merit to you for your exemplary leadership in helping establish and direct the Marshall County Historical Museum. The society’s Awards of Merit are presented to individuals or organizations for their outstanding archival, historical, museum or records management work.
The recipients of the Awards of Merit will be announced at the forthcoming annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society (MHS) that will be held in Jackson on March 6-8. The awards will be presented at the Awards Brunch on Saturday, March 8, at 12:15 p.m. at the Old Capital Inn. We hope that you and another representative of the museum will be able to join us at the brunch as the society’s guests.
You are to be commended for your dedication and splendid work in establishing and administering the Marshall County Historical Museum, and we look forward to seeing you at the MHS annual meeting.
